About Salem
 Salem is known for its steel and mangoes. Salem district has rich mineralized deposits viz. magnesite, bauxite, magnetite, steatite, limestone, granites, gemstones and other industrial minerals. It also has industries like SAIL (Salem Steel plant), MALCO, TANMAG, TAMIN, Burn&Co, DALMIA and many granite industries. Yercaud and Kolli hills are the nearby picnic spots. Hogenakkal falls, Tharamangalam temple and Mettur dam are the important tourist centres around Salem. The city will be slightly warm temperate climate during the month of March. Salem is well connected with rest of the country by train and roads. The nearby airports are Bangalore (200 km), Coimbatore (160 km), Trichy (170 km) and Chennai (340 km).
